What Causes Gears To Stop Working Properly?
The gears can be damaged just from general wear over time, but another reason is due to an unbalanced door that has not been serviced properly. The best way to determine if your door is out of balance is to disconnect the door from the motor by closing the door and releasing it by pulling the red release cord. Once the door is released from the motor push your door up about midway. If it stays in place your door is balanced however, if it slides down or up you have a door that is out of balance.
Balancing your door should be done by a professional as this has to do with adjusting the torsion spring.
